Academy of Social Sciences

SRA Procedure for nominations to Academy of Social Sciences 2011

The SRA can nominate up to ten members each year for Academician status. The nominations process is undertaken twice a year, with AcSS deadlines for consideration in June and December of each year.

For guidance on the AcSS criteria for nomination and copies of the learned society nomination form

The SRA will advertise the nomination process widely in the SRA News as well as via email and our website to our members.

Only current (paid up)SRA members are eligible to be nominated and any current SRA member may propose or second a nomination. The person nominated must confirm that they are willing for their name to go forward.

The nomination must be done on the current version of the Academy nomination form. Nominees must be able to provide a concise CV and proposers should be able to justify their nomination by providing evidence of the significant contribution to social science made by the nominee. This is defined in the Guidance on making nominations for AcSS.

The SRA office will set appropriate deadlines so that the office has the time to process the applications, submit them to the SRA Board or its delegated body to meet the AcSS deadlines (AcSS deadline for receipt of nominations is usually 30 June and 31 December each year).

Submitted applications will be considered by an SRA Nominations Committee. This is chaired by an SRA Academician and comprises the SRA’s Chief Executive, Chair or Vice Chair or their nominee, at least two SRA Academicians and the SRA representatives on the Academy. It is important that the committee is drawn form all sectors of social research. On occasion it may be necessary to supplement the committee to ensure adequate representation across the SRA membership. The committee will usually meet to agree the nominees but could also meet by telephone conference to agree who should be formally nominated to the AcSS. Recommendations by the Nominations Committee will then be submitted to the SRA Board for ratification and forward submission to the Academy.

The SRA Deadline for receipt of nominations for the AcSS June 2011 deadline is Friday 29th April 2011. These should be emailed to nigel.goldie@the-sra.org.uk
