Campaign for Social Science

The SRA is joining with the Academy of Social Sciences and other learned societies in the social sciences to campaign for social science and the contribution it makes to improving overall social well being. This page on the website will be updated regularly to provide SRA members and the wider social research community with information and links on this campaign, on details of cuts being reported to the SRA and any planned actions.

SRA Cuts Watch

Anyone with news on cuts being made (post mid March) are asked to send details to admin@the-sra.org.uk so that we can continue to gather information.

To view the SRA's Cuts Watch Survey Report, report temporarily removed

We also want to point out that members losing their jobs can retain their SRA membership at the unwaged rate of £25 pa and also get reduced rates for attendance at training and other events. Please contact the office for more details.

SRA Services To Members who are facing loss of work

The SRA is very concerned to do whatever it can to support members who are losing jobs or income from social research activity in the present time. If you have suggestions as to ways of helping please email Nigel.Goldie@the-sra.org.uk . Meanwhile we can offer:

  • Reduced rate membership
    • We already have a rate for unwaged and student members of £25.00 a year. This is available to members being made redundant or facing significant losses of income (if independent and freelance).
  • Reduced costs of training and events
    • In addition to normal member discounts we are offering reduced rates to unemployed members for training and other activities. However, we have to ensure we do not make a loss on such activities and hence additional discounts will be offered once courses are viable. Please contact the office (email admin@the-sra.org.uk or phone 0207 388 2401)
  • Networking and other support
    • We have recently set up a LinkedIn network for independent researchers and are considering doing the same to members experiencing redundancy and loss of income at the present time. If you are interested in taking part in this development please email admin@the-sra.org.uk
