Hi,Would just like to say a big welcome to everyone, and so pleased that we now have the opportunity to discuss various items of interest on our own website. My name is MAL, am a full time volunteer, and have been since I had to finish work through illness 10 years ago.Just thought actually,I'll call this thread the 'Voluntary Sector'.My time is divided between several organisations including 2 hospices(as their mascot), Youth Offending Panel, British Red Cross, Diabetes UK, and the Wrexham Voices Through Advocacy Project - a scheme which has come together through the SCOPE sponsored Voices Through Advocacy project to create an Advocacy Plan for Wrexham. However, the majority of my time is devoted to the Open University in Wales, and has been since 1999,when I first started studying.I have obtained Diplomas and a few Certificates with the OU,but my pride and joy is my BSc (Honours) in Health & Social Care, which I received from our Chancellor,Baroness Betty Boothroyd last May,in Cardiff.I should say ex Chancellor as the marvellous lady has recently retired from office after 12 glorious years with the OU.I had the honour of being invited to attend her last public appearance in office on October 2nd in Milton Keynes, the day that I also received the Open University Alumni Award 2006 for Outstanding Contribution to the Open University as a Volunteer.I am also currently involved with obtaining a Degree in Voluntary Studies with the University of Lampeter, and to this end I am conducting a research project on the incidence of diabetes and schoolchildren under 11 yrs of age, associated with diet and the control of,within the school years. Sorry about the mini-novel here,it wasn't intended to be so lengthy, but I suppose your first posting should always be one to remember!
Take care everyone and good researching.MAL.
