Webinar - Applications of AI in Public Sector

The SRA in partnership with the UK Evaluation Society and the Academy of Social Sciences are delighted to host this upcoming webinar. In this webinar speakers from Ofsted and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) will talk about their use of AI in analysis, how it can drive productivity and improve outcomes whilst dealing with large volumes of responses.

Public sector AI: Strategy and practice

Ofsted present their recently established AI Strategy which aims to drive innovation and productivity and improve outcomes for children and learners. The seminar describes how the strategy promotes the legal, ethical and responsible use of AI and how it impacts Ofsted as a regulator and inspectorate.

Ofsted also present details on how AI has been used to aid the analysis of public consultations. They describe how AI has been used alongside Social Researchers to enable the analysis of large volumes of responses whilst maintaining validity of the findings alongside reflections and lessons learnt throughout that process.

Use of AI for Analysis in DESNZ

In this presentation, I will delve into the range of work we've been doing that showcases the utility and various use cases of AI in analysis. I'll discuss where we see opportunities for AI, how it can drive greater productivity, and its strengths and limitations. Additionally, I'll touch upon the risks associated with using AI tools and the considerations we must take into account when employing them.

Kiyoshi Bhuiyan is a social researcher at DESNZ, currently working in the Social and Behavioural Energy Research team. He is part of the working group in GSR that focuses on innovative methods, particularly the proper use of AI.
